The second iteration of Desert X has arrived. Launched in 2017, the biennial invites artists to create site-specific work for the Coachella Valley. This year, 18 artists took part, including Sterling Ruby, Eric N. Mack, John Gerrard, and Cara Romero.

Desert X is no standard biennial. Instead of having pieces all together in a visitor-friendly location, the exhibition is spread out over the vast desert — 55 miles of it, to be precise — with three pieces actually crossing the US-Mexico border.
