Wales Bonner's New adidas Sneaker Is a Stylish Step Past the Samba
Adiós Sambas. Wales Bonner has found a new adidas muse. The Adizero Adios Mesh sneaker is a performance running shoe that essentially exists as the antithesis to the beloved Samba, which has all but become synonymous with Wales Bonner’s collaborative sneaker output.
When you think of Wales Bonner's adidas, you think of slim-soled Sambas with exaggerated flip-over tongues. But this Adizero Adios sneaker is none of that.
Since it was designed to be a running shoe, the Adizero Adios has an arched outsole, a narrow toe box, and this particular iteration is made with lightweight mesh. Basically, it's a cushy sport shoe that defies everything we thought we knew about Wales Bonner and adidas crossover episodes.
However, this Adizero Adios sneaker does retain some of the refined tailoring charm Wales Bonner has become known for, with white contrast detailing at the heel and a leather heel tab.
Elsewhere, the laces and the signature Three Stripes also wear Bonner's signature accent stitching that brings some elderly flair to the sneaker that’s otherwise so high-tech that it becomes geriatric in this handsome brown make.
Available on the adidas website for $220, the Adizero Adios sneaker also comes in a highlighter yellow colorway that features the same shock-absorbing adiPRENE cushioning and co-branded tongue but is decidedly more electrifying.
Where other Wales Bonner collabs like the Karintha sneaker borrow traits from the Samba, the Adizero Adios is the furthest thing from the famously flat shoe. And that's a good thing.
