For a collaboration-crazed retailer like BEAMS, a half-century of retail excellence only calls for even more collaborations. However, the Japanese boutique's newest Polo Ralph Lauren link-up goes beyond its usual stream of limited-edition sneakers, one-off runs of organic apple juice, and beautified hiking gear. This is a tasteful reissue of a forgotten 2010s outerwear grail.

The original navy jacket, an immediate hit when it was released exclusively in small quantities in Japan, riffed on Ralph Lauren Polo Sport’s highly collectable ‘90s anoraks. The appropriately named Japanorak, traded Polo’s typical USA graphic flair for a Japanese flag and all the Japanese and American competitors of a 1934 ski race on the sleeve.

While the Japanorak flew off the shelves in 2010 and has since become an impossible-to-find collector's item fetching four-figure resale prices, the subsequent all-white version created by celeb-favorite barber Daku Nishiyama — who also played a hand in making this reissue happen — is even more elusive.

Now, in honor of BEAMS’ 50th anniversary, the Polo Ralph Lauren Japanorak is back.

This reissued Japanorak released in-store at BEAMS but is already on eBay with prices as high as $3,000. Don’t expect its wider online release on February 2, which retails at ¥141,900 (around $913), to sit for long.

As this is only the second month of BEAMS’ 50th anniversary, the rest of 2026 will undoubtedly include more limited-edition 50th-anniversary goodies.

Maybe you could also bring back that grailed Arc’teryx jacket that also fetches four figures, eh, BEAMS?
