Iconic is an oft-overused descriptor. However, the image that graces Nike Jordan’s new GORE-TEX clothing release is exactly that: it is nothing short of iconic.

Featuring Michael Jordan dunking into a basketball hoop, flying through the air against a backdrop of Chicago’s skyline at sunset, it is the photo that the Jordan brand logo is based on.

Yes, the Jumpman logo was created from this photograph. (Although, it was strongly inspired by a photo of Jordan in a 1984 issue of Life magazine, where he is wearing New Balance shoes — unimaginable today when his name is synonymous with Nike.)

The image of Jordan springing through the air is printed across a waterproof GORE-TEX jacket, covering the back while the front features the Chicago skyline and sunset.

It’s a look reminiscent of LORENZ.OG’s colorful Arc’teryx jackets which dominated the pages of fashionable Instagram accounts a couple of years ago.

Along with the jacket, a pair of GORE-TEX pants are also in the pipeline, all black revealing a sunset print panel beneath a zip that runs along the leg. The matching set is expected to be released in Spring 2025.

It couldn’t be a better time for Nike to bring back this iconic image: The brand is celebrating 40 years of Jordan 1s, the shoes MJ is wearing in the photo.

And it's pulling out all the stops to make sure you know about it.

Iconic shoes are returning, big-name collaborations releasing, celebrities are being wheeled out for campaigns, Nike is “banning” the shoes online… there’s a lot to keep up with.

This GORE-TEX clothing collection adds to the noise as Nike Jordan continues to be loud and proud about its 40th Birthday.
