An Original Nike Air Max Re-Enters Earth’s Atmosphere
And just like that, Nike's "Comet Red" Air Max 95 sneaker has returned to Earth.
For context, "Comet Red" is one of the model's original colorways, landing in 1995 alongside the iconic "Neon," "Grape," and "Bright Mandarin" schemes. Some of the OG color options have already returned to shelves recently, but this would be the first relaunch in a very long time for the "Comet Red" Air Maxes.
The Air Max 95 "Comet Red" has returned only once since its debut, with the last drop happening in the 2010s. It's now 2026, and the Air Max 95 is still hot as ever. It's about time for the OG "Comet Red" to make a comeback.
The 2026 revival is pretty spot on. Nike returns the smooth suede, leather, and mesh layers to the upper, realized in classic grey, black, and white. Of course, there's the famous sprinkles of "Comet Red," which strike the eyelets, logos, and Air units.
And with the Big Bubble soles, it truly feels like the '90s release all over again. After all, the larger soles were put in place to capture the spirit of the original design. Pretty much all of the recent Air Max 95s have featured the new Big Bubble look, from the classics to the all-new designs. Interstellar Air Maxes included.
Retailing for $180, the Air Max 95 Big Bubble "Comet Red" sneaker is set to return on May 8 via Nike's SNKRS app.
For those who missed out on the first two "Comet Red" releases, let's hope this third time will be the charm.
