The Air Jordan 6 is turning 35 this year, and Nike is pulling out all the stops for it.

Retros, collabs, fresh concepts, the iconic silhouette is having its moment. But of everything on the calendar, the "Xuanwu" might be the one worth tuning into.

A little backstory: Xuanwu is a figure from Chinese mythology, the Black Turtle of the North, one of the four symbols of Chinese cosmology, standing for longevity, strength, and protection. Everything you'd want in a sneaker, right?

Jordan Brand first put the concept to the test on the AJ 1 High, then brought it back on the AJ1 Low OG. Now it's the 6's turn, and the design language hasn't lost a step. If anything, it's been amped up, big time.

The upper is black leather, but calling it that feels like an understatement. Raw-cut edges and burnished finishes across each panel give it that slightly aged quality, the kind of thing you'd expect from a Milanese cobbler, not a basketball sneaker.

Brogue-esque detailing on the overlays and toe box leans hard into dress shoe territory, textured sidewalls double down on the formalwear reference, and gold accents on the Jumpman shroud remind you are, in fact, still looking at an Air Jordan.

Part-time cowboy. Part-time baller. Full-time wildcard.
