Double Tap to Zoom

Mason Ramsey once joked about how "they always say yee haw, they never ask haw yee." In their own way, Charlie Martin and Will Taylor present this conundrum as Hovvdy. Last month, the Texan duo dropped their third album, Heavy Lifter which saw them shifting away from slowcore and leaning into indie pop tunes soaked with a touch of southern comfort. Today, we're premiering the music video for their hit single, "Mr. Lee."

In an email to Highsnobiety, Martin told us that the mellow track is about "how significant very small things can be." As he explains, "Sometimes it takes courage to be kind to yourself. It's really amazing when little events coalesce and all the sudden you feel better, awake, a vibrant piece of the bigger picture."

The persona that he imagined for Mr. Lee is someone who lives near his dad and grandparents on the Mississippi gulf coast, a place he describes as "a beautiful and sad place." Iconic illustrator María Medem brought the concept to life in the animated visual. "I enjoyed very much creating the character of Mr. Lee and trying to express his thoughts and feelings with images," she said.
