When Reisinger André created a digital rendering of his Hortensia Armchair, he dreamed of what it might be like to experience the softness of sitting in a blooming flower. Now, that dream is materializing as his petal-covered 3D rendering is transformed into a real-life product that's available worldwide.

The instant virality of the surreal chair prompted market interest and multiple sales orders, as soon as it appeared on Instagram — even though it didn’t exist yet. In response, Reisinger called in textile designer Júlia Esqué to perfect the soft and soothing feeling of sitting in a blooming flower. The chair’s signature petal upholstery contains over 30.000 laser-cut petals and will be available in two colors: Petal Pink and Petal Grey.

To bridge the gap between digital art and physical design object, the designers immediately thought of Moooi. Together with the lifestyle brand, they completed the final stage of Hortensia's evolution — bring the viral chair to the masses. “I really wanted to make this project happen with Moooi,” André explained, “I knew that with their collection having a fine line between art and design, there was no better place for the Hortensia Chair.”

The chair's voluminous curves are now available in 371 fabrics, ready to order from the Moooi website.
