So, uh, there's a new GIF making rounds on Twitter. And we just have one question: what the heck is it?

From the looks, it's a GIF where a bucktooth smiling emoji transitions into a sort of sad pout. It's somewhat relatable, but weird nonetheless (what's up with the teeth?).

Regardless, tweeters can't seem to get enough of it — well, some of them at least (others find it a little terrifying, and understandably so.)

Nonetheless, quite a few have worked the face into their reaction rotation. Now, the gif has gone viral, gaining traction on the bird app. One of our writers saw it on their feeds three times back-to-back during a routine scroll.

So, where exactly did this bucktooth face come from? Well, it ain't from Apple's recent drop-off of wrong-shaded pink hearts and debatable shaking heads. And despite its Android-level appearance, it doesn't hail from Samsung's emoji offerings, either.

Apparently, the faces were originally just some stock photos created by graphic artists, which Twitter users got ahold of, combined for a gif, and well, the rest is viral history.
