It's a match made in macabre heaven: Tim Burton is set to helm a The Addams Family TV reboot. And Netflix is reportedly interested in buying the project.

Deadline reports that Burton is looking to executive produce and possibly direct all episodes of the forthcoming series. Meanwhile, Smallville developers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will be head writers on the show and serve as showrunners as well as exec producers, along with Burton. Numerous buyers are — understandably — vying for the project, with Netflix supposedly leading the race.

However, there's a twist. According to sources, Burton plans on bringing the gothic family to life in present times. The show will reportedly see the Addams clan deal with modern life and will be told exclusively through the perspective of Wednesday Addams.

Burton's previous endeavors into television include the revered animated series Beetlejuice, loosely based on his 1988 movie, which ran for four seasons from 1989-91, and most recently 2008’s Kite Jack.
