Samsung is continuing to innovate with the foldable phone concept, using today's developer conference to tease a concept that's more like a flip phone. The unnamed concept flips vertically instead of horizontally, in order to make it more compact.

"This brand-new form factor that we’re now exploring will not only easily fit in your pocket, but it also changes the way you use your phone," said Hyesoon Jeong, head of Samsung’s framework R&D group. One such transformation would be in watching videos, with the video on one half and controls on another.

Samsung didn't spend much time on the device or give an idea of availability, but it teases an exciting new direction for the company in wake of the Galaxy Fold.

Watch the video above for your first look at the technology.

On this week's episode of The Dropcast, we are joined by studio with Mark Weston, the creative director of British luxury brand Dunhill.
