At Fashion Week, the biggest trends don't always come from the runway. Instead, street style often gives the actual presentations a run for their money. At the Fall/Winter 2025 menswear shows, one of the themes emerging on the Parisian sidewalks is super dark. Literally. Black is back and dominating the French capital’s street style scene.

Fashion's fondness for black goes way back but in recent years, the fashion collective has shifted toward lighter and brighter shades, from Barbie pink to Brat green. But as fashion buffs crowd the streets of Paris, there hasn’t been much color to be found. Instead, the attendees are painting the town black with inky trench coats and dark furs (faux, of course).

Just because black is back doesn't mean these street style looks are bland. Au contraire — the city’s style-setters have been injecting their otherwise dark outfits with whimsical touches like statement hats and patterned scarves.

What exactly is causing this shift back to black is hard to pinpoint. It could be the frigid weather, which often inspires an embrace of richer colors. Whatever the cause, this switch-up is likely here to stay. Paris Fashion Week's street style doesn't just keep up, it sets the pace.
