Nintendo has issued a statement denying the existence of a trade-in program for its Nintendo Switch console.

Last week, a Reddit user reported that after Nintendo announced the most recent upgrade to its Switch console they contacted the company “about the possibility of sending in my launch day Switch to get the battery upgraded (long shot of course).” After they successfully received a free upgrade, many Redditors deduced that if you purchased a Nintendo Switch after July 17 you would be eligible to trade-in your console for the newer version, with almost double the battery life.

Nintendo has since issued the following statement to The Verge;

“We do not have a Nintendo Switch exchange program. We always want players to enjoy their Nintendo Switch systems, and if anything ever gets in the way of that, we encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com for support, or to contact our consumer support team.”
