Editor’s Notes: Nike is dropping yet another Air Jordan 1 this week, after 60 pairs in 2018 and a host of different colorways already this year. This time, Nike's Jordan Brand subdivision has played with the iconic “Chicago” color-blocking, changing it up slightly for a fresh take on a classic look.

The Air Jordan 1 is for many the “one that started it all” with regard to the mushrooming of sneaker culture. First released in 1985, Michael Jordan’s first signature sneaker came in various colorways, one of which was “banned” by the NBA at the time (but not exactly), leading to $5,000 fines for every game in which the "Bred" colorway was worn.

The shoe's "banned" marketing and the silhouette’s later adoption by skate legends such as Lance Mountain and Tony Hawk laid the foundations for an unrivaled heritage.
