GORE-TEX? Toggle-style shoelaces? New Balance's latest take on the 1906 sneaker is practically ready for the trails.

New Balance has made its already techy 1906 sneaker even techier by adding a GORE-TEX membrane to its latest high-performance iteration. Now, the dad shoe model is waterproof even while it welcomes even more airflow than usual (or so it says)

What's more, New Balance also installed a new lace system in the new 1906, specifically an easier, adjustable setup like those seen on Salomons and other hiking sneakers. It's an easily adjustable pull-tab that allows the user to simply tug the shoes tight, rather than loop bunny ears or any other fussy nonsense.

And, truth be told, the New Balance 1906 looks quite good as a trail shoe.

The brand is offers its GORE-TEX 1906 sneakers in two nice colorways, classic trail-friendly black and "Shipyard," a nice pale tan colorway, both of which are now available on AFEW's website for €199.99, around $233.

New Balance has introduced many versions of the 1906 sneaker, from pairs that're "exploding" with tech to wild sneaker-loafers. The GORE-TEX variations are merely the newest face of the 1906's many interests and tastes.

Speaking of which, after seeing these GORE-TEX sneakers, let's hope that a pair of waterproof 1906Ls are next on New Balance's to-do list.
